But first, a recap of my Thanksgiving goodies that I made:
(I would have had photos of the baking process, but alas, my husband had the camera, and my kitchen got to be quite the disaster.)
1. Cranberry Apple Pie with a Cinnamon Swirl Crust- the verdict: the filling was great, the topping was so-so, and the crust was pretty much a bust. The crust idea came from here (I found it through Pinterest). I followed the instructions, and it just wasn't going to fill my pie plate with cute little cinnamon roll circles. So, I ended up just mushing it all together and rolling a new crust. It looked terrible, but at least it tasted great. I really like the taste of the cranberries mixed into the apple pie. Next year I'll work on my crumb topping, I'm thinking too much sugar, and not enough butter. This pie ended up tasting way better the next day!
2. Mini Corn on the Cobs- the verdict: very cute, and kids thought they were great. Lesson learned: make sure your cereal is actually fresh BEFORE you start making them! Ooops! Oh well, at least the kids still ate them.
3. Decorated Sugar Cookies- the verdict: I liked the new cookie recipe. I ended up not having the time or the weather to decorate like I wanted too. I wanted to use a royal icing, but there was too much moisture in the air to be able to whip up egg whites. I ended up just slapping on some powdered sugar icing and some sprinkles.
4. Caramel Stuffed Apple Cider Cookies- the verdict: very yummy! Although, these are much better when warm. The caramel tends to get too hard if they are cold. (pictured above)
5. Sugared Cranberries- the verdict: SO tasty! They were very addicting. I'm lucky any of them make it to the Thanksgiving table. Once they were rolled in the sugar I let them dry overnight. But after the feasting, they were put back into a baggie- they the got soggy. This is one of those things that doesn't store well, so timing is key.
6. Candy Corn- the verdict: very tasty! The recipe (from Alton Brown) was pretty easy, and can be adapted for different tastes and colors. Yes, I'm already planning out my Christmas Corn! I didn't get a picture of these- bummer. Trust me, they were cute.
7. Pumpkin Donut Holes- the verdict: well, I've made these before so I know that they are good. But there's a reason I don't have a picture of them either. They didn't make it out of the oven alive. After being in the oven for just a few minutes I notice smoke billowing out of my oven. I opened my oven to find a sugary mess burning on the bottom of the oven. I had to turn it off. I didn't have the time or the materials to get the oven cleaned in time to finish these. Such a bummer.
So, there you have it- my Thanksgiving line up of treats. Hope all of you had a fabulous Thanksgiving!

YUM! You are so creative!
ReplyDeleteThanks, although most of it I stole from other blogs, so I can't take all the credit!
ReplyDeleteLove it! What a great recap! I agree about the CranApple pie. It tastes better the next day. I did do a crumble top and it was good fresh but after being in the frig it got soggy. I tried reheating it in the oven to get some crispy back, but it didn't really work. I just used a pre-made pie crust from Stater Bros but I don't like crust and hate to make. It would like to try to make a cranberry apple cobbler crumble of some sort.
