Thanksgiving Dessert Line Up and Menu Tuesday

So, here's the post that was supposed to be up yesterday.  You know Menu Monday. But, life got a little crazy when my 5 year old left Daddy's cell phone somewhere in Target.

In L.A.

Yeah, it's gone.

So, here we are for menu Tuesday.  Just keeping it real for any of you that actually thought I had it all together.

But first, a few thoughts on Thanksgiving.

Ah, Thanksgiving.   The almost forgotten holiday.

Something amazing happened last year at Thanksgiving- I finally got to sit at the adult table!  We have had an adult table and a kid table for as long as I can remember.  Just my brother and I and our two cousins.  That's it, just four kids at the kid table.  We are all pretty close in age, we had a great time.  Even in high school we were at the kid table.  Even in college we were at the kid table- and we had a good laugh about it.  But it kinda got ridiculous when my own kids were sitting with us at the kid table.

Two years ago I made a comment about how us cousins were really at the adult table and the rest of the guests were at the senior table.  After that, we all sat together.

One of the reasons I love Thanksgiving is that it give me permission to make more than one type of dessert.

This year I'm bringing quite a spread of various desserts.  My dad, who happens to be the best pie maker ever, is making a pumpkin pie and a pecan pie.  I'm adding to that an apple & cranberry pie, a cookie tray, and some candies.  Here's some links to what I'm doing:

Apple Pie: pie filling -similar to this one, although I'm using a crumb topping and adding some cranberries.  Pie crust: found this crust on Pinterest, and I have to use it!

Decorated sugar cookies:  I have used my leaf and acorn cutters for many years, and I love decorating them.  This year I'm using this cookie recipe, from Sugarbelle's.

Caramel Stuffed Apple Cider Cookies- found these here.

Also on the cookie tray with be these Pumpkin Donut Holes

Found this recipe for Sugared Cranberries- thought they would be cute sprinkled around the cookies.

Saw this recipe, and just had to make it for the kids.  Little Corn on the Cobs

And, depending how they turn out- I'll be bring homemade candy corn. (You gotta love Alton Brown recipes!)

Why candy corn, you might ask.  I know it is more for Halloween, but since ever I can remember we have always had candy corn spread out on the Thanksgiving table.  It's just one of those things.

Now on to this weeks menu.  Well, to tell you the truth, there's not much of a menu this week!  I like to keep it really real.  Here's what my week is looking like:

Monday: Crock-pot Hawaiian BBQ chicken
(This was super easy and tasty- but if your kids are like mine and they can't handle a lick of spice- consider buying a different brand of sauce.  The one they mention has a small kick.)

Tuesday: Trader Joe's Mini Party Meatballs with spaghetti and sauce

Wednesday: You guess is as good as mine!

Thursday: Thanksgiving Feast!

Friday: probably left overs.
